In this article I will describe to you how you can get your own free U. S.  phone number, and call free to landlines all over the world and to cell phones in the United States and some other countries.

PS.  In this guide, I am recommending VoipBuster as your IP-telephone provider.  If you are using another IP-telephone provider, go straight ahead to Step 2.  VoipBuster is a completly free.

Step 1: Install the application to administrate your new phone number

Go to www. voipbuster. com, choose the tab "Download" in the top menu.  Press the "Download the VoIPBuster" button.  Download and install the program.

Complete the install and open the application.  Now you have to create a new account, and log on.  After you've completed this you are now ready to make calls free all over the world.

Step 2: Get your own free phone number

Congratulations, you are now ready to get your own phone number.  First of all go to the following internet site: hxxp: phone. ipkall. com/ipphone/

In the option "Choose your account type", choose SIP.  You can choose between 4 area codes, these are all area codes for Washington state.  The SIP Phone number is your username in VoipBuster.  In the SIP proxy-option, enter the following: sip. voipbuster. com:5060

Enter your e-mail adress (Note: This must be valid to recieve your new number).  Choose a password to log in to the IPKall account site.  Choose a number of seconds for your phone number to ring before it hangs up.  Now all you have to do is type in the word(s) you see in the image and press "Submit".  If you have done this correctly, you will get a message that your phone number will be assigned as soon as the application has been processed.  This should normally take from 1-2 hours.

As soon as you've recieved the confirmation e-mail, you are ready to use your new phone number.  Try to call it from your house/cell phone.  If you have done things correctly, the VoipBuster should notify you of an incoming call.  Note that it may take as much as one hour from the confirmation e-mail has been recieved untill your the phone is working properly.

Step 3: Called-ID

You now have your own phone line to recieve incoming calls.  You can use the VoipBuster for outcoming call, but if you want your number to show as the caller-ID you have to modify the settings in the VoipBuster program.  Choose the Tools tab in the menu and go to "Options".  On the left menu, there should be a "Caller-ID" tab.  Now choose "Edit my VoipBuster profile".  In the Phone Numbers-section add your IPKall-phone number as the home number.

Now you will see a "Verify"-button next to where it says the number you entered.  Press this, and hit Next.  Make sure you remember the number, and wait for the call.  This might take as much as 30 seconds.  When it rings, press answer, then Cancel, and OK.

When you are asked to enter the verification code, press the 4-digit code.  You should soon hear a voice saying that your number has been verified.  This process may be a little tricky, so if it dosen't work the first time, try again.  You might also want to check out the volume settings if it fails several times.

Congratulations! You now have your very own, free, phone line!
